祝贺信，英文中称为 letter of congratulation。在西方国家，当得知某位朋友面临毕业、新婚、生子、升职抑或乔迁等喜事的时候，往往会立刻向对方写信祝贺，这是与对方加深友好感情关系的绝佳机会。写这种书信时，需做到真诚自然、亲切动人。
一般来说，在考研英语中，祝贺信主体部分的写作可按照三个步骤进行，即三步走策略。接下来就以题目为例，具体解析一下这个策略。

Suppose your friend, Bai Ruo, has just been admitted to Peking University as a postgraduate. Write a letter to congratulate him.

三步走策略中的第一步也就是上面的首段，只有一句话，说明写信目的。既然这是一封祝贺信，那么写信的目的自然就是向收信人表示祝贺，而这也正是题目所给出的写作要求。此外，在祝贺信中，表明写信目的之后还需简述祝贺的缘由，使书信的交流功能更加准确和有效，这也是写信的常识问题。对于以上两点内容，简单来说，可用一句话表达，即I am writing this letter to send my congratulations on
中段：During the past four years, you kept improving and devoted yourself into your major study. I am delighted that the four years of your study has been rewarded in this way. It is obvious that you will have a promising future in front of you.
在祝贺信中，本段的主要内容就是就所要祝贺之事进行具体的阐释，这也是写祝贺信的主要难点所在。进一步来说，就是解释该事是收信人的劳有所获、天道酬勤，而并非是偶然投机之事。具体安排上，可按上面所给范文中总结为：过去努力了，现在回报了，未来很美好。根据这样一个时间上的先后，合理安排写作内容。
尾段：Once again, congratulations on your admission. I hope that you will make great achievement in your future study and life. I am looking forward to hearing more good news in your studies and research work.
本段中第一句话通过once again+congratulations，再次表达了自己对收信人的祝贺情。之后，第二句话和第三句话都表达了自己对收信人未来的美好祝愿，希望对方会有更大的成就等等。
在考研英语的书信表达中，类似的首段或尾段的套用句式比较丰富，大家需要在复习过程中进行有意的积累，并在写作中加以运用：
