介绍信，英文中称为letter of introduction，是向收信人介绍与自己有关的第三方以方便他们认识并一起做事的信件。一般来说，此类信函是由第三方(即被介绍人)亲手交给收信人的，写作时务必要措辞恰当得体。
一般来说，在考研英语中，介绍信主体部分的写作可按照三个步骤进行，即三步走策略。接下来就以题目为例，具体解析一下这个策略。
例题：
Directions：
Your close friend in college, Wang Can, is going to pursue his postgraduate study in the foreign university where you studied before. Write a letter to your former teacher Professor Benson to introduce Wang Can, expressing your hope for help from Professor Benson.
You should write about 100 words on ANSWER SHEET 2.
Do not sign your own name at the end of the letter. Use Li Ming instead.
Do not write the address.
题目所给的规定情景是你大学的一个朋友白渃要去你以前呆过的一所外国大学读研究生，要求你给之前的老师本森教授写一封信，向他介绍白渃并希望他能给与帮助。
根据上面所提的介绍信写作三步走策略，具体操作如下：
首段：It gives me great pleasure to introduce you Mr. Wang Can, my classmate and best friend.
在介绍信中，三步走策略中的第一步是要表明写信目的。用到的英语句型则是比I am writing this letter to更为委婉礼貌的It gives me great pleasure to introduce。除此之外，鉴于介绍信中涉及到第三方，那么自然就要是写信人与第三方相熟、了解方能做出介绍之举，所以在信中要表明自己与这所介绍之人相关，增加说服性。
中段：He is going to pursue his studies as a postgraduate in your university after his graduation here. We have lived and studied together for almost four years. His performance in the school years was outstanding. In addition, he has a very attractive personality and staying with him is always pleasant.
在介绍信中，表明了目的之后，接下来第二段的主要内容就是向对方介绍这第三方的实际情况了，包括他/她将要去往收信人之地的事及其相关性格、经历等。对于本段的写作思路我们可以借鉴申请信的第二段，即表明资格情况时，考生需注意的是：首先，资格要分条陈述，切忌一锅乱炖，使之更为一目了然，也更吸引人;其次，陈述资格时，除了要叙述事实之外，还要进行进一步的阐释。
尾段：Considering he is an entire stranger there, would you please give him some guidance regarding the postgraduate entrance examination? If it is convenient, could you introduce him to the future tutor? Any assistance you may render to him will be highly appreciated.
本段中，鉴于介绍信是通过介绍第三方以请求收信人给与帮助或方便他们和谐相处，因此在这部分就需表明此目的。在本题目中，是要请求对方给予帮助，因此需礼貌委婉地表达此些请求。句型上可用would you please以及could you这两句话。提出请求后，接下来就需要对对方可能提供的帮助表达感谢了，用于务必要礼貌诚恳。
在考研英语的书信表达中，类似的首段或尾段的套用句式比较丰富，大家需要在复习过程中进行有意的积累，并在写作中加以运用：
1. Please allow me to introduce to you the bearer of this letter.
2. We have great pleasure in introducing to you, by this letter...
3. It gives us great pleasure to introduce to you, the bearer of this letter...
4. Id be most grateful if you could...
