邀请信，英文中称为letter of invitation，一般来说是邀请收信人参加本方举办的某项活动的信件。写作时语言应热情诚挚，但不可强人所难。
一般来说，在考研英语中，邀请信主体部分的写作可按照三个步骤进行，即三步走策略。接下来就以题目为例，具体解析一下这个策略。
例题：
Directions：
Write an email to Professor Benson in your university, inviting him to attend the graduation ceremony of this June. You should include the details you think necessary.
You should write about 100 words on ANSWER SHEET 2.
Do not sign your own name at the end of the letter. Use Li Ming instead.
Do not write the address.
题目所给的规定情景是要求你向本校的外教本森教授写一封信，邀请他参加今年六月份即将举行的毕业典礼。
根据上面所提的邀请信写作三步走策略，具体操作如下：
首段：It gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend our graduation ceremony on June 30th in the Shane Hall in our university.
在邀请信中，三步走策略中的第一步是要表明写信目的，即委婉地向收信人发出邀请。用到的英语句型自然是应该非常礼貌的。此外，邀请信一般是邀请别人参加某项活动，因此还须在后面简要介绍活动的时间地点等。
中段：The occasion will start at 3:00 p.m.. And in virtue of your rich experience as a human resources manager, we would like to invite you to make a ten-minute speech to give our students encouragement and suggestions for their future work.
在邀请信中，表明了目的之后，接下来第二段的主要内容就是向对方解释邀请他/她的主要原因以及对方需在活动中做些什么了。但是在这之前，作为一名合格的活动组织者，还需考虑到各种细节问题，其中最为重要的就是要告知对方活动的具体时间点，以防出现时间偏差，影响整个活动的顺利进行。
尾段：Please inform me of your decision before June 25th. We would be particular honored by your distinguished presence at the ceremony and look forward to hearing from you.
本段中，紧接前面内容，向对方解释完原因和具体邀请内容之后，就要询问对方的意见了。收件人能否应邀到来严重关系到整场活动的规划安排。其次，邀请信的最后一步，当然还是要向对方表示自己期待其到来的美好愿望了。
在考研英语的书信表达中，类似的首段或尾段的套用句式比较丰富，大家需要在复习过程中进行有意的积累，并在写作中加以运用：
1. We would like to extend to you an invitation to...
2. It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend...
3. We should be very grateful if you could .
4. Please let me know your decision in your earliest convenience.
5. Please confirm your participation at your earliest convenience.
