说到原因定位，首先来几个表示原因的逻辑连词或短语，当然常见的有because, since, owing to, thanks to, in view of, given (that), lie in, root in等等。下面来看两道真题。
真题在线1：Reporters tend to be part of a broadly defined social and cultural elite, so their work tends to reflect the conventional values of this elite. The astonishing distrust of the news media isnt rooted in inaccuracy or poor reportorial skills but in the daily clash of world views between reporters and their readers. (2001年Text 3)
61. The basic problem of journalists as pointed out by the writer lies in their ________.

解析：首先题干中有表示原因的短语lies in，回到原文定位就可以找到这句话中的root in，题干问的是作者指出记着的基本问题在于，原文的reporters, news media与题干的journalist相对应，原文的The astonishing distrust与题干中的The basic problem相对应。接下来，isnt root in是谓语部分，其后的宾语是inaccuracy or poor reportorial skillsbut连词表转折，连接第二个谓语，前后意思相反，因此第二个介词in理解为而在于，其后的宾语the daily clash of world views between reporters and their readers因此，对新闻业的不信任而在于记者和读者之间日常的世界观冲突。答案C就很好选了。
